What Is HalcyonMUN?
HalcyonMUN is the flagship event that the HalcyonMUN student organization hosts every year. To put it simply, HalcyonMUNwe’re the West End’s largest and longest running Model United Nations conference and educational enrichment opportunity for students across the country aged 13-18. Whilst you may have heard of us before, theres really nothing better than attending one of our events and seeing what it’s all about. But what is it all about in the first place?
Model United Nations (MUN) conferences provide students with an opportunity to develop key intrapersonal, public speaking, and critical thinking skills in an environment that simulates the United Nations as closely as possible. Our delegates debate real resolutions and policies which are currently being debated at the United Nations in New York City, with the aim of drafting and passing resolutions that further humanity.
Delegates learn to represent political ideals that they might not personally agree with and approach controversial topics from a perspective of neutrality and diplomacy; not confrontation- something that we can all agree far too many people struggle with. Delegates can expect to lobby, gather signatories, and work in teams using strategies in order to pass resolutions which could, quite literally, change the future of the world- albeit on a slightly smaller scale.
Thousands of Model United Nations conferences are hosted around the world every year. Many schools in London also host these types of events, including the largest in Europe. So what makes us so special?
We are London’s only non-for-profit IB school.
Why is this important? Many MUN conferences charge inflated and ridiculous fees to attend their events. In 2024, tickets for LIMUN costed up to £75 and could exceed this price in some extreme cases. This puts attending MUN events completely out of reach for anyone who isn’t willing to spend a fortune on a basic entry fee, and isn’t able to be sponsored by the organization. We are the complete opposite. As a student organization, we understand that sometimes schools aren’t able to afford these inflated costs, and therefore students miss out on what we believe is an incredibly important part of real learning. We keep our prices as low as possible, without making a profit, whilst keeping the same quality that you’ll find at any other mainstream MUN event such as ours. We also include fully complimentary breakfasts, lunch, and snacks- something you won’t find anywhere else.
2. We strive for the best. Always.
From foreign ambassadors to PhD’s in political science, we make sure that our attendees get the best educational enrichment possible. Our team is attentive to details and always strives to deliver the best events possible; this means that you’ll always get a top-tier experience at HalcyonMUN- in addition to personalized customer support and phone consultations with our Board of Directors whenever you might need it.
3. We are one of the oldest conferences in all of central London.
Having been inaugurated over thirteen years ago we are one of the most senior MUN organizations in the city. We have a proven track record of delivering unforgettable events which directly impact student’s learning, and working with partner schools to deliver outreach and diversity programs which ensure that every young person has an opportunity to attend one of our events.
4. It’s FUN!
Every year, we receive hundreds of messages from affiliated teachers, attendees, and administrators telling us how FUN our events really are. And we know it! Our student Board of Directors all began their journeys in MUN as delegates, and developed a love through debating which carried them to where they are now.
5. Complimentary Food.
Did we mention? 100% of the delicious food we offer at HalcyonMUN is fully complimentary and vegetarian, this includes fresh smoothies, breakfast, snacks, hot lunches, and fresh pastries baked in our kitchen daily. We also accommodate any and all dietary restrictions that our attendees may have.
6. We are fully dedicated to our attendees.
Everything we do is with our attendees in mind. From the way we set up our councils, to our communications and external relations, and everything in between, we’re always thinking about how we can improve the experience for you - our delegates.
