Secretary-General’s Welcome
Esteemed Attendee,
Since its founding fourteen years ago by Baroness Julia Neuberger, a Peer in the House of Lords, HalcyonMUN has grown into the West End’s largest and most vibrant school-hosted Model United Nations conference. What began as a small student initiative has evolved into a major international forum for young people passionate about global affairs, diplomacy, and leadership.
At its core, HalcyonMUN is entirely student-led and driven by a commitment to academic excellence, inclusion, and meaningful dialogue. We believe that debate and cooperation are essential tools in preparing students for the complex challenges of the modern world. Our conference is designed to provide a holistic educational experience that develops public speaking, negotiation, research, and critical thinking skills while fostering confidence and global awareness.
We proudly welcome delegates aged 13 to 18 from all experience levels and from diverse cultural, social, and educational backgrounds. By creating an environment rooted in respect and open-minded discussion, HalcyonMUN encourages intercultural understanding and collaboration across borders. We aim to ensure that every participant feels empowered to contribute, challenge ideas thoughtfully, and engage in constructive solutions.
This year’s theme, “Global Unity in an Era of Fragmentation: Confronting Polarisation with Diplomacy,” reflects the urgent need for cooperation in an increasingly divided world. Delegates will explore the causes and consequences of political, social, and economic polarisation, while working together to address inequality, discrimination, and global instability. Through rigorous debate, compromise, and strategic problem solving, students will be encouraged to develop realistic and forward-thinking solutions to some of today’s most pressing international issues.
HalcyonMUN is more than a conference. It is a platform for young leaders to connect, exchange perspectives, and grow both academically and personally. Beyond committee sessions, delegates will have opportunities to build lasting friendships, engage with inspiring speakers, and experience the vibrant cultural setting of Central London.
My vision for the future of our organization is to shift towards a future where HalcyonMUN directly enables young people across the country to learn and foster their own love for diplomacy. I hope that someday, HalcyonMUN can become the premier organization that bridges the gap in political literacy and ensures that every student, from every background, can be confident knowing they have the skills to embrace tomorrow’s challenges.
Warmly,
Dylan Brookner
14th Secretary-General
