XIV - Conference Theme

Each year, The Halcyon London International School MUN conference (HLISMUN) is guided by a central theme that influences the work of its committees and defines the scope of its delegates’ debates. For 2027, the chosen central conference theme is “Multiculturalism & Understanding: Combating Misinformation in a Divided World,” reflecting increasingly complex challenges faced by modern international relations due to technological development and growing political extremes.

This central theme encourages delegates to examine the pervasive influence of misinformation on international political relations and public trust in established political and societal institutions. Our 2027 MUN conference invites critical analysis of how misinformation further contributes to polarization, exacerbates conflict, and undermines effective governance at both national and international scales.

Throughout our conference, delegates will engage with a range of primary and secondary research sources, assessing the roles of nations, international non-governmental and governmental organisations, and the media in the mitigation of misinformation’s harmful impacts. Particular emphasis will be placed on the tension between safeguarding freedom of expression and implementing regulatory frameworks to ensure the integrity, reliability, and accuracy of publicly accessible information.

By addressing issues such as digital governance, human rights, and international cooperation, our conference seeks to develop delegates’ analytical, diplomatic, and problem-solving skills via the process of preparing for and participating in a multi-day MUN conference on the Halcyon London International School’s campus. Our conference aims to foster informed dialogue, critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and youth engagement in the complex international political, social, environmental, and economic challenges we currently face.

By situating the vitality of multiculturalism, open dialogue, mutual respect, and understanding at the centre of all delegates’ discussions, this year’s conference underscores the necessity of internationally collaborative approaches to addressing misinformation and its far-reaching consequences.

I am deeply proud to witness how HLISMUN continuously empowers students from all backgrounds with the rare and invaluable opportunity to cultivate the art of diplomacy.
