MockCOP
Alongside our flagship conference, HalcyonMUN hosts a shorter secondary event inspired by the United Nations Conference of the Parties, known as COP. In the real world, COP is the annual climate summit of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, where countries come together to negotiate international action on climate change. Major agreements, including the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement, were shaped through this process.
HalcyonMUN’s COP conference allows students to explore these same global challenges in a more accessible and focused format. Centred on environmental issues and climate action, the event introduces delegates to the urgency of climate change while helping them develop the core skills of Model United Nations: research, debate, negotiation, diplomacy, and collaborative problem-solving.
Designed as a smaller and more digestible conference, COP is especially well-suited to newer delegates who want to experience MUN before taking part in a larger conference, such as our flagship HalcyonMUN session in March. It offers students a supportive environment to build confidence, understand committee procedure, and engage with one of the most important issues facing their generation.
The conference takes place outside school hours, typically from 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM, making it minimally disruptive to the school day while still providing a meaningful and engaging academic experience.
