Secretary-General’s Welcome

Esteemed Attendee,

Since its founding fourteen years ago by Baroness Julia Neuberger, a Peer in the House of Lords, HalcyonMUN has grown into the West End’s largest and most vibrant school-hosted Model United Nations conference. What began as a small student initiative has evolved into an international forum for young people passionate about global affairs, diplomacy, and leadership.

As the 14th Secretary-General of HalcyonMUN, I bring a background in student leadership, conference operations, and live-event production. Having worked across HalcyonMUN’s operational and logistical teams, I have seen firsthand what it takes to deliver a conference that is not only well-run but meaningful, accessible, and professional.

At its core, HalcyonMUN is entirely student-led and driven by a commitment to academic excellence, inclusion, and meaningful dialogue. Our conference develops public speaking, negotiation, research, and critical thinking skills while building confidence and global awareness among students aged 13 to 18 from a wide range of backgrounds.

This year’s theme, “Global Unity in an Era of Fragmentation: Confronting Polarisation with Diplomacy,” reflects the urgent need for cooperation in an increasingly divided world. Delegates will explore the causes and consequences of polarisation while working together to address inequality, discrimination, and global instability through rigorous debate and practical solutions.

HalcyonMUN is more than a conference. It is a platform for young leaders to connect, exchange perspectives, and grow academically and personally. My vision is for HalcyonMUN to help bridge the gap in political literacy, ensuring that every student, from every background, has the confidence and skills to embrace tomorrow’s challenges.

Warmly,
