Attending a Conference
We’re Glad You Made It
Whether you found us through social media, a simple Google search, or through word of mouth - we’re happy you’re here.
HalcyonMUN is Central London’s biggest (and best) Model UN conference, but we’re more than that. We’re a cohort of passionate students who care deeply about global diplomacy and who understand the importance of Model UN conferences in today’s world. On top of that, we know how fun MUN conferences can be, which is why we strive to create the best events that embody everything we know and love about Model UN.
Every year, over 200 students from across the city come together to participate in our two events, COP and HLISMUN. And we work closely with affiliated schools and student organizations to provide opportunities to underprivileged students who might otherwise not have the opportunity to participate in conferences such as ours. We believe that every student should be allowed to practice the essential skill of global diplomacy, especially in the current political climate, where the need for good leadership has become increasingly relevant.
If you’re new to MUN, we recommend reading the UN guide on what Model UN is.
Why Should You Attend HLISMUN?
MUN conferences such as ours are excellent opportunities to develop key life skills, including public speaking, intrapersonal skills, effective written and verbal communication, and teamwork and leadership. Additionally, MUN conferences are a great opportunity to meet other like-minded young people and make new friends. Everyone who attends HLISMUN leaves with something new under their belt, whether it’s the experience of attending a large MUN conference or just meeting people; you are guaranteed to have a good time!
On top of that, attending MUN conferences, such as HLISMUN, carries immense academic benefits that are guaranteed to set you apart from the crowd when applying to universities and apprenticeships. It could even fast-track you to a career in diplomacy. Furthermore, regional MUN conferences such as HLISMUN allow you to build a repertoire of experience which you can then apply to even larger MUN conferences such as OxfordMUN and other international conferences.
Key Information
Al of our conferences require formal attire in accordance with our Rules of Procedure & Delegate Handbook which can be found under “Delegate Resources”, on this site. Our conferences are held at the HLIS campus; the full address can be found in the footer of this page or by searching for “Halcyon School” on any search engine.
In the weeks leading up to HLISMUN, scheduling & research reports will be published via this website under the “Conference” tab. Councils and their descriptions will also be published here.
We ask that all delegates refrain from bringing external food or drinks onto the HLIS campus, as it is prohibited in accordance with our school’s policies & the Delegate Handbook. All delegates and MUN directors may be subjected to random searches of personal property whilst visiting the HLIS campus. This is to ensure the safety and comfort of everyone involved and is at the discretion of security officials. Part of our security policy uses an airlock to enter and exit the campus. Admin staff will monitor these to ensure the smooth, safe flow of visitors in and out of the building.
If you are new to debate procedure, please read the Delegate Handbook under “Delegate Resources”. This handbook also contains all the necessary in-depth information on the Rules of Procedure, debate, and more.
To maximize the enjoyment of all attendees and ensure debates run smoothly, HLISMUN strongly encourages all participants to have a high level of English language proficiency, both conversational and written. If you are unsure of your English proficiency, we recommend attending our smaller COP conference before our flagship event in March.
Media
Throughout HLISMUN, members of the Media Team & HLIS communications will be recording and taking pictures for commercial purposes such as our social media platforms, website, and newsletters. This content may also be used by HLIS and the MUN organization indefinitely for further promotional purposes. By attending HLISMUN, you automatically consent to this usage of media and the storage of any associated information in accordance with UK GDPR laws. If you wish to withdraw your consent from this agreement, please make yourself known to a member of staff at the conference or email mun@halcyonschool.com.
You can find full policies, information about the conference, and more through our Delegate Handbook.
