For Delegates
Represent a country. Debate global issues. Build solutions.
At HalcyonMUN, you will take on the role of a diplomat, representing assigned countries in formal committee debate. Over two days, you will research international issues, deliver speeches, ask questions, write resolutions, negotiate with others, and work towards practical solutions that reflect real-world issues and resolutions actively being debated in the United Nations.
Whether this is your first Model United Nations conference or one of many, HalcyonMUN is designed to challenge you, support you, and help you grow as a speaker, thinker, and collaborator.
What’s Expected From Delegates?
Delegates are expected to represent their assigned country or delegation, not their personal opinion. This means researching your country’s position, understanding your committee topics, and taking part in debate from that perspective.
You will be expected to:
Speak formally and respectfully, in accordance with the rules of procedure
Raise their placard before speaking
Ask and answer Points of Information
Debate resolutions and amendments
Work with other delegations
Follow instructions from Chairs and Student Officers
Remain focused on the topic being debated
Delegates do not need to be experts before arriving. However, all delegates are expected to have completed basic preparation and to engage seriously with the conference.
-
Most delegates attend HalcyonMUN through their school.
If your school is attending, your teacher, MUN Director, or chaperone will usually manage registration on your behalf. They will submit your delegate information, confirm your participation, and receive key updates from HalcyonMUN.
If you want to attend through your school, you should speak to your school’s MUN club, humanities department, debate club, or teacher responsible for student enrichment.
Once your school has registered, you should wait for your committee and country allocation before beginning detailed preparation.
-
If your school is not attending HalcyonMUN, or if your school does not have an MUN club, you may be able to attend through our Non-Affiliated Student Programme.
This programme allows individual students to register without being part of a school delegation. It is designed to make HalcyonMUN accessible to students who would otherwise not have the opportunity to attend through their school.
Non-Affiliated Students can take part like other delegates, but attendance is subject to safeguarding requirements. Students attending through this route must have appropriate parent or guardian supervision. HalcyonMUN and Halcyon London International School do not take responsibility for travel, accommodation, or supervision outside the conference.
To request access through the Non-Affiliated Student Programme, complete the relevant form on the Delegates page or contact the HalcyonMUN team.
-
If your school is attending HalcyonMUN, you should register through your school.
If your school is not attending, does not have an MUN club, or cannot send a delegation, you should consider the Non-Affiliated Student Programme.
In both cases, delegates are expected to follow the same conference rules, dress code, safeguarding expectations, and debate procedures.
-
After registration, delegates will receive or be given access to key conference information, including their committee, country allocation, topics, research reports, schedule, and preparation materials.
Delegates should begin preparing once allocations are confirmed. This means researching their assigned country, understanding the topics, reading the Research Reports, and preparing possible speeches, clauses, or resolution ideas.
