For Student Officers
Student Officers play a central role in the academic and procedural running of HalcyonMUN. They help manage debate, support delegates, uphold conference standards, and ensure that committees run in a formal, respectful, and productive manner.
Student Officers may serve as Chairs, Co-Chairs, or other committee leadership roles depending on the needs of the conference. In all cases, Student Officers will act within a leadership capacity that directly mimics that of council leadership and presidents within the United Nations. This role is suited to students with previous MUN experience who are confident in debate procedure, able to manage a room, and willing to support delegates of different experience levels.

Student Officers are expected to arrive prepared and to understand the committee, topics, and procedure they are responsible for.
Before the conference, Student Officers should review the relevant guidance, including the Chairing Handbook, conference policies, debate procedure, and any committee-specific information provided by the Academics team.
During the conference, Student Officers must remain attentive to both debate quality and student welfare. If a delegate requires additional support, behaves inappropriately, or raises a concern, Student Officers should respond professionally and escalate the issue where necessary.
⚠️ Student Officers may be required to arrive earlier than the scheduled start for morning briefings. They may also be required to stay after the sessions close on conference days.
-
Student Officers are expected to help uphold HalcyonMUN’s standards throughout the conference.
Particular areas of enforcement include:
Dress code compliance
Appropriate device use
Misuse of AI
Inappropriate note-passing
Disruption or unserious behaviour
Bullying, harassment, or discrimination
Any conduct that affects the safety, professionalism, or reputation of the conference
If Student Officers are unsure how to respond to an issue, they should seek support from the Secretariat or staff team. Concerns should not be ignored.
HalcyonMUN follows a strict Zero-Tolerance approach to Student Officer misconduct. Any such behavior will result in you being asked to abandon your position.

International schools are warmly welcome at HalcyonMUN. Visiting delegations are responsible for arranging their own flights, visas, accommodation, airport transfers, insurance, meals outside the conference, and supervision.
International schools should check UK entry requirements well in advance. HalcyonMUN cannot provide immigration advice, but we can provide confirmation of conference attendance where appropriate after registration has been confirmed.
International delegations should also ensure that:
Students have valid travel documents
Visas or Electronic Travel Authorisations, where required, are arranged in advance
Students have appropriate travel insurance
Emergency contacts are available throughout the trip
Chaperones remain responsible for students outside conference hours
Arrival and departure times do not conflict with the conference schedule
Delegations arriving from outside London should plan extra time for airport transfers and central London transport.
